Canal Cultural Festival: Walking Streets and Floating Markets

Celebrate Bangkok’s rich canal heritage at the Canal Festival: Rivers of Life Under Royal Grace, an eight-day festival featuring floating markets, walking streets, traditional performances, live music, local food, and cultural activities across five historic canal locations around Rattanakosin Island. Held in honour of His Majesty the King’s Birthday, the festival offers free experiences for visitors of all ages.

About the Event

Discover Bangkok’s historic waterways as they come alive with markets, performances, exhibitions, and community celebrations during the Canal Festival: Rivers of Life Under Royal Grace. Taking place across Mahakan Fort Park, Ong Ang Canal, Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, and two walking streets around Rattanakosin Island, the festival showcases the culture, food, and traditions that have shaped life along Bangkok’s canals.

Visitors can explore floating markets, browse local crafts and OTOP products, enjoy traditional Khon performances, listen to live music, sample regional street food, and experience a variety of cultural exhibitions throughout the week.

Festival Highlights

Mahakan Fort Park (Main Festival Zone)

The main festival area features cultural performances, concerts, exhibitions, local markets, and family-friendly activities throughout the event.

Special activities on 26 July include:

• Traditional alms-giving to 225 monks by boat at 7:10 AM
• Free flu vaccinations (first 300 people)
• Candle-lighting tribute ceremony at 7:10 PM

From 27–31 July, visitors can also enjoy an authentic floating market selling traditional Thai desserts, local delicacies, and food prepared from boats.

Khlong Lot Wat Ratchabophit Walking Street

Browse handmade crafts, second-hand books, local products, and riverside community stalls while enjoying live stage performances and music throughout the day.

Ong Ang Canal Walking Street

Open from 18–31 July 2026, this section features Yaowarat street food favourites, canal-side art displays, cultural merchandise, wall painting competitions, and outdoor film screenings under the festival theme.

Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Walking Street

Enjoy famous dishes from Nang Loeng, traditional Thai sweets, documentary screenings about Thailand’s waterways, and exciting canal boat races on 26 July from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM.
